About
Zexiang Li
Zexiang Li attended the South-Central University in 1978, received his BS (with honor) degrees in Electrical Engineering and Economics from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1983, his MS degree in EECS in 1985, MA in mathematics and PhD in EECS in 1989, all from the University of California at Berkeley. He worked at ALCOA, the Robotics Institute of CMU and the AI Lab of MIT (89-90). He was an assistant professor at the Courant Institute of New York University (90-92). In 1992, he joined the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and is currently a professor of the department. He founded the Automation Technology Center (ATC) and currently serves as its director.
Zexiang Li received the ALCOA Foundation Fellowship in 1979, and the E. Anthony Fellowship in 1983. He was a recipient of the University Scholar award from CMU in 1983, the E.I. Jury award from UC Berkeley in 1989, the Research Initiation award from NSF (US) in 1990, the Outstanding Young Researcher award (Class B) from NSF China in 2000, the LEAD award from AMI, USA in 2001, and the Natural Science award (3rd class) from China in 1997. He became an IEEE Fellow in 2008.
Zexiang Li served as a panel member of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), an overseas member of the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and an associate editor for the IEEE Trans. on Robotics and Automation. He was the general Chair for the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). In 2019, Li was selected as co-recipient of the 2019 IEEE Robotics and Automation Award for his influential “contributions to the development of civilian drones, aerial imaging technology, robotics engineering advancement, innovation and entrepreneurship.”
Zexiang Li's research areas of interests include multifingered robotic hand, parallel manipulators, workpiece localization and inspection, motion control, precision assembly, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). He is the author of more than 100 journal and conference papers, and the books A Mathematical Introduction to Robotic Manipulation) (CRC Press 1993), and Nonholonomic Motion Planning (Kluwer 1994).
Zexiang Li co-founded several companies with his colleagues and students from the Automation Technology Center, including Googol Tech (the first motion control company in China), DJI (a leading company in UAV and flycam products), QKM Tech (an automation company providing excellent robot products and services to manufacturers world-wide) and ePropulsion (an innovative provider of high-performance marine electric propulsion systems). In 2014, he co-founded Clear Water Bay Venture Capital and Songshan Lake Xbot Park to incubate and promote the robotic industry in the Pearl River Delta region. He was appointed to the Commission on Strategic Development of the Hong Kong SAR government in 2015. In July 2016, he co-founded the Hong Kong X-Tech Startup Platform together with Neil Shen, founding partner of Sequoia Capital China and Professor Guanhua Chen of the University of Hong Kong.

Edward Suning Tian
Mr. Tian was the co-founder and CEO of AsiaInfo Holding Inc. which is the first Internet technology provider in China. AsiaInfo Holding was publicly listed in NASDAQ in 2001. It was privatized in Jan. 2014. Mr. Tian has been appointed as the Chairman and Executive Director of the company since then.
Mr. Tian was the Vice Chairman and CEO of China Netcom Group from Nov. 2002 to May 2006 and CEO of China Netcom Company Ltd. from Aug. 1999 to May 2002. Mr. Tian was also serving as the Vice Chairman of PCCW Limited from 2005 to 2007.
After China Netcom, Mr. Edward Tian has founded China Broadband Capital Partners, L.P. (CBC) in May, 2006. CBC is a TMT sector focused private equity fund and it is now focusing on 5G ecosystem investment.
Mr. Tian holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Management from Texas Tech University, USA.

Howard C. Yang
Dr. Howard Yang co-founded Montage Technology in 2004, and has served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer since then. Dr. Yang co-founded Newave Semiconductor Corp. in 1997 and merged Newave with Integrated Device Technology Inc. in 2001, which was ranked China's Top 10 mergers of the year. He was the Head of New Product R&D Department at Shanghai Belling from 1994 to 1996. He engaged in R&D and design of integrated circuits at National Semiconductor Corp. and other companies in Silicon Valley from 1990 to 1994. Dr. Yang is a Fellow of IEEE
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and received several awards including IEEE CAS Industrial Pioneer Award, JEDEC Distinguished Executive Leadership Award and Magnolia Gold Award from Shanghai Municipal Government. Dr. Yang holds MS and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Oregon State University in USA.

Ya-Qin Zhang
Dr. Ya-Qin Zhang is Chair Professor of AI Science of Tsinghua University, and Dean of Institute for AI Industry Research of Tsinghua University (AIR). He served as the President of Baidu Inc. for 5 years (2014.09-2019.10), responsible for Autonomous Driving, Cloud Computing, Emerging Business, and Technology divisions. Prior to Baidu, Zhang was a key executive at Microsoft for 16 years, serving as Corporate Vice President and Chair/Cofounder of Microsoft Asia-Pacific Research and Development Group.
Zhang was inducted to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2019. He joined the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) as the only foreign Fellow in 2017. He became an IEEE Fellow in 1997 at age 31 as the youngest Fellow of the organization’s 100+ year history at the time. He is one of the top scientists in digital video and multimedia, with 558 papers in leading international conferences and journals, 62 granted US patents, and 11 books. He has received many prestigious academic, technological, and industrial awards, including the IEEE Centennial Medal, IEEE Industrial Pioneer Award, IEEE Richard Merwin Medal, over a dozen best paper awards of various IEEE transactions and journals.
Zhang was named one of the top 10 CEOs in Asia, 50 Global Shapers, Executive of the Year, IT Innovator Leader Award by IT Times, Business Week, CNBC, Global business and Vision magazine. He served on the Board of Directors of five public companies. He is on the industry board of United Nation Development Program (UNDP), and received UN’s special award for sustainable development in 2016. He is the Chairman of world’s largest open autonomous driving platform “Apollo” alliance with over 160 global partners. He has been an active speaker in global forums including APEC, Davos World Economic Forum, United Nations, and Bo’Ao Asia Forum.

Alex Zhou
Mr. Alex Zhou is a Partner at Qiming Venture Partners, and focuses on investments in frontier technologies (such as artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous driving, privacy computing), enterprise software, semiconductor, intelligent manufacturing, etc. Alex has worked as board director/observer with entrepreneurs at "unicorn" companies - UBTech Robotics, Megvii, Biren, RoboRock (SHSE: 688169), Tongdun, and Unisound – and other high growth startups such as Mech-Mind Robotics, Yunji Technology, Viewtrix, Axera, Casela, Nvxclouds, ABC Technology, Chaitin (acquired by Alibaba), IDSManager (acquired by Alibaba), XSKY, TigerGraph, SequoiaDB, Transwarp, Eigen, ReelSky Data Systems, Genius Education, HYperstrong, DSTcar, etc.
Prior to Qiming, Alex worked for KPCB (Kleiner Perkins) in Beijing and Silicon Valley, where he was actively involved in TiDAL Systems (acquired by Micron Technology). Before beginning his investment career, Alex worked for HP (Hewlett-Packard) and oversaw the company's data storage business unit in China. Alex also co-founded Rethink Technologies, a startup focusing on managing unstructured data.
Alex was recognized by the 36Kr China’s Top 20 Semiconductor Investors, the Jazzyear China’s Top 20 Tech Investors, and the FoF Weekly China’s Top 30 Investor Young Leaders in 2020.
Alex holds an M.B.A. degree in finance and entrepreneurship from Columbia University.
